About

As Assistant Dean at the Northern Ontario School of Medicine I have responsibilities for Simulation and Educational Informatics. I am also co-chair of the MedBiquitous Virtual Patient Working Group, an author of the OpenLabyrinth virtual patient authoring and delivery system and Chair of the AFMC Informatics Resource Group. I also sit on the boards of eHealth Ontario and Medical Teacher. My work in developing and implementing profession-focused educational systems was recognised in the award of a Queen’s Anniversary Prize for Higher and Further Education to the University of Edinburgh in 2005, the first such award given to work involving learning technologies. I was also Visiting Professor in Medical Education at St Georges University of London 2007-2010. My research concentrates on online learning, simulation and the use of new technologies for teaching and assessment. My most recent work has included the HSVO project funded by CANARIE to create a network-enabled platform for integrated simulation (www.hsvo.org).
